Every year more than five million students across Punjab appear in the Secondary School Certificate and Higher Secondary School Certificate annual examinations conducted by the nine Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education. Results for all nine boards are declared on the same day and at the same hour under a unified schedule issued by the Punjab Boards Committee of Chairmen.

The SSC examination is divided into two parts. SSC Part 1, the 9th class examination, is the first stage, while SSC Part 2, the 10th class examination, completes the matriculation qualification. HSSC Part 1 covers 11th class and HSSC Part 2 covers 12th class, together forming the Intermediate qualification that students know as FA, FSc, ICS or I.Com.

Candidates appear as either regular or private students. Regular candidates are enrolled with an affiliated institution which submits their admission forms and registration details to the board. Private candidates apply directly to the board and appear at designated centres. Both categories receive the same result format and the same certificate on completion.

Supplementary examinations

Candidates who do not clear all subjects in the annual examination can appear in the supplementary examination held later in the same year. Only the subjects that were not cleared need to be repeated, and marks obtained in cleared subjects are carried forward. Admission forms for the supplementary examination open shortly after the annual result is announced, and supplementary results are also published on punjabresults.pk.

After your result

Matric students who pass can apply for admission to Pre-Medical, Pre-Engineering, ICS, I.Com, FA, Commerce or technical diploma programmes depending on their marks. Intermediate students move on to university admissions, entry tests and professional degree programmes. If you believe your marks were incorrectly totalled, every board accepts online rechecking applications within fifteen days of the announcement.

Certificates and documents

After the result, boards issue a Detailed Marks Certificate showing subject-wise marks, followed later by the formal certificate. Regular candidates receive these through their institution, while private candidates apply directly to the board. Duplicate copies and corrections to name, father's name or date of birth are handled by the board's certificate branch against a prescribed fee.
